On August 5th, 2009 AID FOR AIDS International presented at the Youth Assembly of the United Nations. Executive Director and Founder, Jesus Aguais spoke about AFAI’s innovative “Cuanto Sabes de VIH y SIDA?” (“How much do you know about HIV and AIDS?”) peer education program. He spoke about the importance of Neurolinguistic programming, which changes how youth feel about HIV and AIDS by dissecting the way that society uses language to define it, in the fight against HIV and AIDS, especially regarding stigma and discrimination. Mr. Aguais was joined by a graduate and peer educator for the “Cuanto Sabes” program, 21 year old Moises Gonzalez. Moises spoke freely about how “Cuanto Sabes” has changed his life and how it has helped him to educate others. Youth Assembly attendees asked questions after the talk, ranging from how AFAI was started to personal experiences with people living with HIV and AIDS.
