AID FOR AIDS International is very pleased to be participating in this year’s Bi-national Health Week, which will feature an array of workshops, fairs, conferences and health screenings focusing on major health issues affecting Latin American immigrants and their families.
The “Semana Binacional de Salud”, which will take place October 1st through the 16th, is an event organized by the Mexican Consulate in New York open to all men and women. Health fairs, workshops and health screenings will be held at several Latin American consulates (including Mexico, Colombia and Guatemala), hospitals and clinics throughout the five boroughs of New York. Further details on the location and time of specific events will be posted on their website:
Representatives of AFAI’s New York Immigrant AIDS Link (NYIAL) program, a long-standing partner of the Mexican Consulate, will be in attendance at all the events to provide free HIV rapid testing, preventive education and counseling services.
In addition to HIV/AIDS, the workshops and fairs will address cancer awareness, family planning and Alzheimer’s disease, among other health issues.
“Whatever your individual health concerns, you will find answers to your questions and referrals for appropriate help at the Semana Binacional,” noted David Mosquera, NYIAL outreach coordinator.  “We encourage all our clients and prospective clients to take advantage of this great opportunity to empower themselves with information.”
