showimageLast week, AID FOR AIDS Dominican Republic carried out a raffle of a Mercedes Benz to benefit the work of the organization’s satellite office there. Claudia Messina, President of AFA-Dominican Republic, handed over the automobile to one very lucky winner, Carolina Mejía. Thanks to this raffle, vital funds were raised to help continue the programs of AID FOR AIDS in the Dominican Republic.

“We are so happy and proud to say that all funds will help us continue the wonderful work we’ve been doing for so many years. This will also help us continue reaching thousands of young people through our workshops known as ‘Educating the East Dominican Coast,’” Claudia added enthusiastically.

As Claudia stated, all funds raised will help not only to continue with the expansion of our programs, but also to improve the services we provide for the community at large. In the Dominican Republic alone, our HIV prevention program “How Much Do You Know?” has trained more than 154 teachers, who have gone on to train an additional 1,700 “multiplying agents” (peer educators). These educators have in turn transmitted the information they learned from the program about HIV prevention and the development of life skills to more than 38,000 young people in total.

AFA-Dominican Republic has been in operation since 1998 in Santo Domingo, where dozens of people receive free HIV treatment each year. Furthermore, AFA-Dominican Republic works actively in the Central Hospital of Santo Domingo where they treat more than 400 children with HIV, thanks to the Comprehensive Treatment for Children Program.

This represents merely a small fraction of the wonderful work we are carrying out in this beautiful Caribbean island. You can support the work we do and join our cause by donating today! To support the work of AFA-Dominican Republic, contact us at
