Heat in the theater

The March 10 special performance of “Siudy: Between Worlds,” benefiting AID FOR AIDS International, got our fundraising year off to a rousing – and adventurous—start.
The “flamenco fantasia,” which will be the first in an ongoing series of social and cultural events aimed at increasing awareness of AFAI’s activities and growing our base of support, came off exactly as advertised.
“It was beautifully choreographed and the individual performers were incredible,” was the review from one excited audience member. “It made you think, but at the same time, you got caught up in the powerful emotions being generated onstage.”
As it turned out, emotions were not the only heat in the theater. During the final curtain call, the fire alarm went off, necessitating the evacuation of the audience into the street. Sources said it is believed that the shutoff of the air conditioning unit caused the heat from the stage to trip the alarm system.
But neither the evacuation nor the rainy night dampened the audience’s spirits. To all who came out that night in support of AFAI, our thanks and hopes that you will join us on our next adventure.
