Yesterday AID FOR AIDS celebrated the completion of its second iteration of “En Voz Alta” (Out Loud), a workshop organized in partnership with the Latino AIDS Commission, to empower, educate and uplift HIV positive Latino immigrants. The workshop was led by Hugo Ovejero, who is the Director of the Mpowerment Project at the Latino AIDS Commission. It consisted of five weekly sessions during which the focus was not just safe sex and physical health, but also self-esteem and dealing with the emotional and psychological effects of being HIV positive. There were eight participants, all beneficiaries of AID FOR AIDS’ Local Access Program. We are very proud of the work and progress these men accomplished, and know that they can take what they learned and use it to improve their lives, as well as those of the people around them.
