AID FOR AIDS International (AFAI), as part of the Mesoamerican for the Integral Education on Sexuality (IES). has been elected to be part of the Executive Committee of this Coalition.
In an extraordinary meeting of the Panamanian Coalition on September 15, Catherine
Quintero, a member of our AID FOR AIDS Panama team, received, in a democratic process, the support of most organizations in this alliance to serve as youth representative for this Mesoamerican entity. In her new role, Catherine will be working to promote the rights of youth to comprehensive sexuality education and adequate health services, which will decrease the impact of HIV in the region.
Catherine has been working as a “multiplying agent” in HIV prevention since she graduated from AFAI’s program, “How Much Do You Know About HIV And AIDS?” in 2007, and she has been an active AID FOR AIDS Panama youth leader. Now, as she embarks on a new challenge, we wish her well, and will be providing her institutional support from our headquarters in New York and our offices in Latin America and the Caribbean.
For us at AID FOR AIDS International, it is an honor to have such committed and hard-working people as Catherine. And, we are certainly proud to have youth representation from our organization in the Regional Mesoamerican Coalition.
“This will be great opportunity for me to help give young people in the region a greater voice in demanding better health services and having comprehensive sexuality education incorporated in their school curriculums,” noted Catherine.
“AID FOR AIDS has given me the tools to become an effective advocate in the community. Now, it’s time to put those tools into practice. I am fully committed to my new responsibilities on the coalition and will represent AFAI with dignity.”
