Young Venezuelan migrants and refugees receive training about entrepreneurship and finance in Cúcuta, Colombia
Since January 2023, AID FOR AIDS has been offering workshops and training in Cúcuta, Colombia for economic and social integration of young Venezuelan migrants and refugees who engage in survival sex.
For a period of 2 months, 30 young Venezuelan migrants and refugees will receive 24 workshops and training about entrepreneurship, personal finance, business and life skills. After that, it is expected that they have new income opportunities through a new business.
“People who engage in survival sex in Colombia need a sustainable solution that allows them to find alternative economic and livelihoods ways to replace transactional sex. But, to achieve this, they need a comprehensive program that addresses not only their need for business training and personal finances, but also their urgency for integration, and sexual and reproductive health needs. These types of programs are aimed at them”, says Jaime Valencia, director of AID FOR AIDS Colombia.
This program was created based on the in-depth study done by AID FOR AIDS, focused on Survival Sex in Migrant and Refugee Populations. The objective of these trainings is to transform the participants from a health psychoeducation perspective. In addition, the workshops aim to provide tools about entrepreneurship and finance to offer skills about personal economic planning.
