Are your HIV unused meds going to waste?

Are your HIV unused meds going to waste?

AID FOR AIDS keeps receiving medicine donations from our most recent recycling campaign "Where does your unused HIV medication end up?". On behalf of our entire staff and all our clients who depend on these medications for their daily survival, we deeply thank those who responded to our call for donations. However, we are still getting applications from potential clients in different countries around the world, which we would like to fill as soon as possible. We need your ongoing support to meet the growing need for life-saving ARV therapy and to continue serving our existing clients. We ask that our donors – individuals and organizations—keep us informed when they have medications ready to ship. Our contact person, recycling manager Liliana Velasquez, can be reached at, or at 212 337-8043, ext. 302.

On the first Tuesday of every month, AID FOR AIDS teams up with The Legal Aid Society to provide legal services to our beneficiaries, as well as to many immigrants living in New York City. Thanks to this partnership, we have been able to help a significant number of immigrants in NYC who do not have the necessary resources to obtain legal status in the United States. AID FOR AIDS is thrilled with the bond we have created with the Legal Aid Society! About The Legal Aid Society The Legal Aid Society is the oldest and largest not-for-profit organization in the U.S. that offers free legal services for clients who cannot afford counsel. In 2008, with a staff of some 1,400 – including nearly 850 lawyers and 600 social workers, investigators, paralegals, and administrative staff – the Society handled 295,000 legal matters. The Society provides a range of civil, criminal,…

At AID FOR AIDS, we take HIV prevention seriously. That’s why we continue to create new educational workshops and organize special activities that will help foster a broader culture of prevention and responsibility. Most recently, AID FOR AIDS teamed up with The Latino Commission on AIDS and designed a workshop aimed at men who have sex with men (MSM) between the ages of 18 and 40. The workshop’s objectives were to provide clear information about safer sexual practices, condom use and negotiation strategies, and to discuss ways that we can all spread the word about safer sex in our communities. Thanks to our friends at The Latino Commission on AIDS, the workshop was a huge success. Our beneficiaries obtained the tools and information needed to have a safe and healthy sex life, and engaged in a dynamic, informed discussion that reinforced the core prevention strategies of the workshop.

The time has come for the 2014 Gay Pride Week in New York City, and AID FOR AIDS couldn’t be more excited. The annual event is a terrific way for people to come out and show their support for the LGBT community – and have a great time doing it! It’s also a perfect opportunity for us, here at AFA, to spread our message and showcase our work, all while supporting one of the communities most affected by HIV. Our commitment to providing vital medication to those who lack access across the globe is stronger than ever; over 18,000 people in 43 countries have received HIV treatment from our programs to date. AID FOR AIDS’ message for the upcoming celebration is simple: know your status. Living a healthy life means paying attention and taking care of your health – but most importantly, it means being yourself. In accordance with…
