A few hours just before New Year, AID FOR AIDS would like to thank every single person like you who made this year a fruitful and stimulating year. Thanks to the hard work of our staff, the support of our partners and allies, and the confidence of everybody, we exceeded our own expectations. It is thanks to you that we can continue our work every day and promote our values.
AID FOR AIDS has grown more than we ever could have imagined and this year we started with a new image. The changes that came with the launch of our new image reflects the growth and evolution of AID FOR AIDS as an international organization. These changes also mark an opportunity to clearly present our work and our impact around the world, not only graphically but also more strategically and structurally. As part of the process, we have also updated our mission and vision. While we continue highlighting our well known HIV recycling program, the largest of its kind, we are also presenting and highlighting our unique model of empowerment and a range of comprehensive programs and services that we have successfully developed over the years.
Furthermore, we are proud to say that this year we surpassed $100 million in HIV recycled meds redistributed to over 43 countries worldwide. In 2013 we provided counseling, social services and comprehensive support to more than 500 new immigrants in New York City. In addition, our education program reached more than 100 thousand new youth in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Another of our most recent and significant achievements was the expansion of our program How much do you know? (¿Cuánto Sabes?) to the Kuna Yala indigenous community in Panama. We brought life-saving information and empowerment tools to dozens of children, youth and adults that live in this beautiful community. Most significant of all was the unrivalled reception and solidarity of the Kuna Yala community, who also invited us to launch the first How much do you know? Center, which is currently under construction. Moreover, AID FOR AIDS continues to expand in Latin America and the Caribbean, and this year we began the process of launching an office in Mexico.
On the other hand, in Dominican Republic our Children Program began its operations from the Children’s Hospital Robert Reid Carral, which helped us include over 400 new children to our program. A remarkable achievement for AID FOR AIDS!
Finally, our Executive Director, Jesús Aguais, received the PODER Awards in recognition of his tireless work since 1998 with AID FOR AIDS.
These are just some of the accomplishments that we have achieved together in 2013. We believe that next year will be a year full of new challenges, and we will be ready to face them. On behalf of AID FOR AIDS family, and from the deepest of our hearts, we wish you the best this coming year 2014. May the New Year bring you peace and happiness to you and your loved ones. We look forward to continuing working together towards an AIDS free generation in 2014.
