Last month, AID FOR AIDS donated a bulk shipment of almost 500 bottles of antiretroviral medication (ARVs)—valued at more than $400,000—to a US non-profit, which works closely with a Nigerian hospital and will help make the medication available to patients there. This large donation was a joint collaboration between our AIDS Treatment Access Program (ATAP) and Faith Alive USA, in order to benefit patients of the Faith Alive Foundation in Nigeria (FAFN). This medication will fill the gap for about 165 patients without access to such treatment in the free Faith Alive Hospital in northern Nigeria.  The hospital has over 4,000 patients under care for HIV. This is the third such shipment AFA has donated for Nigerian patients since last year. AID FOR AIDS began providing vital medication to Nigerians at Faith Alive in 2007. The African foundation was founded in 1996 after Dr. Christian Isichei completed a fellowship in…

John*, like most teenagers in Honduras, loves to play soccer and is a die-hard fan of the soccer team “Olimpia,” which hails from the capital city of Tegucigalpa. He plays in an organized community league with his peers every Saturday. John lives at Montaña de Luz, a home for children infected and affected by HIV in Honduras. Currently, Montaña de Luz is home to 32 children and adolescents who come from a variety of states throughout Honduras. In 2005, when John was only nine years old, his mother died of AIDS. After that, John and his younger sister moved from home to home of various family members in the capital city of Tegucigalpa. This instability in his home life lent itself to a lapse in addressing John’s medical needs and a failure to follow a strict treatment regimen. As a result, he was hospitalized on several occasions, especially after his…

Hundreds of beneficiaries of the New York Immigrant AIDS Link (NYIAL) Program come through the AID FOR AIDS office each year to receive services from our case managers that typically include referrals for housing, access to legal aid, and other support and social services. However, this past Sunday, April 8, the online gallery Visual Art Sur teamed up with NYIAL to provide our beneficiaries with a special workshop with renowned Venezuelan artist, Eduardo Agelvis. The workshop titled, “Art for Healing,” brings together groups of people to work under the direction of a single artist, and together they create paintings that then go on to be sold in art auctions with the proceeds benefiting a charity.  The enthusiastic group of participants attending the event painted four large canvases that will be combined into one single piece and featured in the annual AID FOR AIDS My Hero Gala art auction to be…
