As the summer comes to a close, so does our great experience working with the intern squad that joined AID FOR AIDS International (AFAI) this season. And so, we want to bring special recognition to one of our most resilient and committed interns, Daphne Louissaint. At AFAI we pride ourselves on doing a lot with very limited resources. The great impact of the work of our team, however, would not be possible if we didn’t have the key support of young professionals who join the AID FOR AIDS team as interns. These interns bring a fresh perspective to the way we do things but most importantly, AFAI encourages them to leave a legacy. Working in support of our HIV Medicine Recycling Program this summer, Daphne Louissaint did just that, and we are certainly sad to see her go but thank her for the amazing contribution of her wonderful work and…

Here at the AID FOR AIDS International (AFAI) headquarters in New York City we receive dozens of packages per week. Every time the FedEx worker shows up with another delivery of boxes we take them straight back to the medicine storage room—a room in the back of our office lined with shelves that are stocked with donated medications. With each new shipment we receive, Leonardo, the Coordinator of our HIV Medicine Recycling Program, sorts through and inspects every single bottle to determine if it can be used and sent to our beneficiaries across the world. However, when Leonardo walked out of the medicine storage room last week, it wasn’t the latest shipment of antiretrovirals that had him smiling from ear to ear. This time he was carrying an unexpected package, a letter and large color drawing sent from the children at the Fuyang AIDS Orphan Salvation Association (AOS) in China.…

NEW YORK- August 13, 2012. Five years ago, AID FOR AIDS International and BioScrip, Inc. established a working relationship that has evolved into one of the most significant efforts to increase access to HIV medication for people in developing countries. In addition to providing medication for those with no prior access to treatment, the joint efforts also targeted the expansion of HIV testing for most-at-risk populations in New York City. Now that BioScrip is a part of the Walgreens family under the name “Community – A Walgreens Pharmacy,” the collaborative work of both entities continues as AID FOR AIDS International (AFAI) and Walgreens work together to strengthen the long-standing relationship. Through its previous work with BioScrip, AFAI established nine drop-off boxes for its HIV Medication Recycling Program in select locations including: Chelsea, the Bronx and Hawthorne in New York; Philadelphia, PA; Washington, DC, Baltimore, MA; Atlanta, GA; and Minneapolis; MN.…

Judging by the intensity of applause coming from the conference room and from the positive energy of participants in the last of a series of educational workshops held at our New York Office, we are pleased to see that our team has once again decisively accomplished our goals. The latest success in our programs is a pilot project focused on the effective use of life skills to empower individuals living with HIV. Our newest offering is a three-hour, weekly seminar emphasizing personal empowerment and the different ways participants can strengthen and develop social skills. The workshop is intended to show the participants how to make constructive changes in their lives based on positive emotions. For more than a year, the AID FOR AIDS team has worked closely with psychotherapist, Maria P. Ochoa, to design a life skills curriculum appropriate for our clientele.  The course offers an opportunity for personal growth…
