It’s been 8 years since the inception of “¿Cuánto sabes de VIH y Sida?” (translated as “How much do you know about HIV and AIDS?” and referred to as “Cuanto Sabes?), AID FOR AIDS International’s primary HIV prevention program in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).  “Cuanto Sabes?” has consistently proven its effectiveness in delivering a life-saving message by advocating for healthy and responsible sexual behaviors among young people as well as for changes in attitude regarding consideration and respect towards people living with HIV. We owe a large debt of gratitude for this success to the significant contribution from the Elton John AIDS Foundation and to the many partners with whom we’ve worked throughout the years. In particular, Colombia’s track record shows outstanding growth as we’ve continued to expand “Cuanto Sabes?” through affiliations with major public entities such as the Municipal Public Health Department of the city of Cali…

It’s still Christmas at AID FOR AIDS International (AFAI) thanks to our friends of People en Español who recently sent us a generous donation from their annual holiday sale of beauty products.  The proceeds from this annual People en Español event (Sale of Beauty Products), held in December for its employees, go to support a good cause so, to us, this donation is even more valuable as it represents the contribution of the entire team at this prestigious magazine. Thanks also goes to our friend and collaborator, Kika Rocha, from People en Español, who joined our New Generation Committee last year.  Because of her, this valuable connection was made.  Donations like this are vital to promote the wo rk being done by AFAI over the past 16 years.  As you know, we are facilitating access to treatment for people living with HIV or AIDS in developing countries, HIV and AIDS…

AFAI Delivers Life to Children in Panama

AFAI Delivers Life to Children in Panama

Following on the heels of its life saving shipment of medication to the Children’s Hospital in Panama barely two months ago, AID FOR AIDS International (AFAI) has sent another package of ARVs, worth nearly $8,000, in response to a specific request from the Infectious Disease unit of the Pediatric Care department at the hospital.  The timing was perfect as we had just received two donations of several bottles of pediatric ARVs to our Recycling Program; one from the Cohen Children’s Medical Center in Great Neck, NY and the other from the Positive Connection organization in Topeka, KS. These two donations were sufficient to cover the request from the Children’s Hospital in Panama.  A happy coincidence indeed as this specific medication comes to AFAI infrequently.  This case is one of the many examples which show the vital role our donating partners play in expanding the Recycling Program and in helping to…

The Trunk Show, to be held at 845 UN Plaza, 82B in New York, will start at 11 AM and end at 7:00 PM.   This is hardly the first time that the talented Venezuelan designer has set aside a portion of the sales from her exclusive, upmarket collection of bags and accessories to help AFAI. Following the new strategies of marketing and communications, today AID FOR AIDS International (AFAI) is launching its first ever Infographic. By making use of social media technologies, this informational tool will help us convey to a broader audience awareness about the key role of HIV Medicine Recycling as an effective way to increase access to treatment in the world. The Infographic was designed to make it easy for everyone interested in learning more about the program to digest a complicated set of facts in an easy to read manner. It contains important data about the current state of access to HIV treatment, the successes of its recycling program, to date, and it shows how much more it could do with additional donations.  The Recycling Program run by AFAI collects unused and unexpired HIV medications in the United States. Our staff then sorts and stores the unused medicines before their expiration…
