To be sure, there’s been some very good news recently about positive developments in the long and disheartening struggle against HIV and AIDS. But that good news can’t paper over the reality that every day, nearly 5,000 people die from AIDS and 7,000 new HIV infections are reported around the world – 3,000 of them among youth. And it can’t erase the fact that our primary mission at AID FOR AIDS International – to provide life-saving medication to PWLHA who lack access to treatment—is in jeopardy. The history of AFAI traces to the beginning of the medication recycling program in 1996. Over the past 15 years, the program has redistributed, free of charge, more than $70 million worth of antiretroviral medication collected in the U.S. to needy recipients in 35 developing countries. The program also works with clients and their doctors to monitor and ensure the clients’ adherence to treatment.…

PRESS RELEASE Contact: Eduardo Guzman – 212 337-8043, ext. 335 ( ) For the five Latino immigrant artists preparing to present their work at AID FOR AIDS International (AFAI) on May 20-22, there is a lot more at stake than another showcase.  There’s the realization of a lifelong dream: to be free to express themselves through their art, without fear of homophobic violence and discrimination. “In my country, Venezuela, a gay man with HIV doesn’t have the right of free expression,” says Yder Laya, a ceramic artist who describes himself and his HIV+ colleagues as “political refugees.”  “I lost my job in marketing because of who I am. Just the idea of showing my art in public would be unthinkable over there.” Jose Gonzalez, a Venezuelan painter, concurs fully. “Just to be able to invite my family to come to the show to see who I am as a person…

On May 12, AID FOR AIDS International’s New York Immigrant AIDS Link (NYIAL) hosted its first nutritional workshop for members of its MSM (men who have sex with men) support group.  The 90-minute workshop, “Eating Well with HIV/AIDS,” was conducted by Esther Trepal, a nutrition specialist with God’s Love We Deliver, which provides healthy home-delivered meals to PLWHA throughout the New York metro area. “Ms. Trepal presented a wealth of specific information about the relationship of diet to HIV,” notes David Mosquera, the NYIAL outreach worker who organized the workshop. “For example, she addressed the connection between HIV and conditions like hyperglycemia (high blood glucose) and lipodystrophy (the redistribution of body fat), and how good nutrition can help control these side effects of HIV medication. The clients asked a lot of questions and seemed to get a lot out of it.” So much, in fact, that NYIAL plans to bring…

We want to express our most sincere gratitude for being part of this year’s AIDS WALK New York and supporting our team. Whether you were a walker, a donor, a fundraiser, or by helping us at the event, you played a very important role in making this AIDS WALK a success. We reached our fundraising goal, we had more registered walkers than previous years, and despite the rain, we managed to have one of the largest teams walking in Central Park. More important however, we had a great time and we hope you join us again next year! We want to share this photo for you to have a little taste of what happened at the AIDS WALK. Soon we will be releasing more images of the event so keep checking our page!

Since some of you may be wondering how to meet your team at Central Park, here’s the basic info: Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, AID FOR AIDS team members—along with 45,000 other walkers—will enter Central Park at 59th St. and 5th Avenue. You can register at the sign-in tables to claim your rewards (Official AIDS Walk T-shirts, caps, etc.).  After signing in, continue on the path until you hit a fork in the road.
