El pasado 25 de septiembre AID FOR AIDS PANAMA recibió la visita en misión técnica del Señor Ricardo Martínez Brenes, Oficial Multipaís para México y América Central de UNESCO. La visita del Sr. Brenes se da en el marco de la ejecución del proyecto de formación de talentos humanos juveniles en la prevención del VIH desde el desarrollo de las habilidades para la vida que se desarrollará durante los meses de septiembre, noviembre y diciembre e impactará, a través de la formación de jóvenes líderes de organizaciones juveniles y estudiantiles, a más de 2,500 jóvenes en las provincias de Coclé, Veraguas, Chiriquí, Los Santos, Herrera, Bocas del Toro y la Comarca Ngäbe Buglé. How much do you know about HIV / AIDS?, one of the main programs from AID FOR AIDS International, where youth are trained to teach healthcare messages to their peers in the prevention of HIV and AIDS, was presented to the first lady of the Republic, Marta Linares de Martinelli, by Trina Maria Aguais AFAI’s Director of Operations Latin America and the Caribbean and Lastenia de Aerosemena, President for Panamá organism, during a work meeting. click here

How Much Do You Know About HIV & AIDS workshop

In this article, an Ecuadorian newspaper writes about AFAI’s How Much Do You Know About HIV & AIDS workshop, which was conducted in Guayaquil with teachers from 8 different schools.  During the event, teachers and counselors received information about HIV transmission and neurolinguistic programming, enabling them to spread the word to both their students and those from other educational institutions.  According to Jaime Valencia, AFAI’s Director of Operations, the main goal of the workshops was to use education and access to information to reduce stigma and discrimination towards people living with HIV and AIDS and decrease the incidence of the disease. The workshop was a result of a partnership between AFAI, Fundacion VIHDA and the Guayaquil Mayor’s Office. Read PDF

On August 5th, 2009 AID FOR AIDS International presented at the Youth Assembly of the United Nations. Executive Director and Founder, Jesus Aguais spoke about AFAI’s innovative “Cuanto Sabes de VIH y SIDA?” (“How much do you know about HIV and AIDS?”) peer education program. He spoke about the importance of Neurolinguistic programming, which changes how youth feel about HIV and AIDS by dissecting the way that society uses language to define it, in the fight against HIV and AIDS, especially regarding stigma and discrimination. Mr. Aguais was joined by a graduate and peer educator for the “Cuanto Sabes” program, 21 year old Moises Gonzalez. Moises spoke freely about how “Cuanto Sabes” has changed his life and how it has helped him to educate others. Youth Assembly attendees asked questions after the talk, ranging from how AFAI was started to personal experiences with people living with HIV and AIDS.
